Dr. Chem. Iveta Pugajeva is the leading scientist at the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment BIOR and the head of the Chromatography Group of the Chemical Laboratory.
Iveta has been working in the chemical industry for 16 years, is the author of more than 50 scientific publications and she has launched an unprecedented Baltic-wide study to develop a new wastewater research methodology for a better understanding of public health.
Iveta works on wastewater-based epidemiology – an innovative approach to research various contaminants in samples of waste water that characterize, for example, the food and alcohol consumption habits of the population, in order to develop a new methodology for public health assessment. The data obtained in the research will provide useful epidemiological information on the lifestyle, dietary habits and public health of the Latvian population.
In 2020 she received the L’ORÉAL Baltic Prize for Women in Science. Iveta is honoured to be noticed by the scientific community, and for her this award is a great encouragement for the future. She believes that everyone has different gifts and everybody should never give up.
